5 Signs Your Tap Needs Replacing (Not Just Repairing)

Most dripping taps can be fixed with a new washer — a simple repair Nick does on the spot. But sometimes replacement is the smarter move. Here is how to tell the difference.

1. The Tap Body Is Corroded or Pitted

Older chrome taps in Bayside homes from the 70s and 80s corrode on the body and seat. Once the seat is damaged, a new washer will not seal properly and the tap will drip again within weeks.

2. The Mechanism Is Failing

If the cartridge body is cracking or the tap handle is loose and sloppy, replacement is more cost-effective than chasing repairs.

3. You Have Had It Repaired More Than Twice in Two Years

Nick’s rule of thumb. Recurring drips on the same tap mean something is wrong beyond the washer — usually the seat. At that point, replacement is better value.

4. You Are Renovating Anyway

If you are updating a bathroom or kitchen, do it now. Matching the tap style later is harder and more expensive than doing it as part of the renovation.

5. The Style Is Discontinued

Some older tap models can no longer be sourced with replacement parts. If Nick cannot get the right cartridge or washer, replacement is the only option.

Nick stocks quality tapware on the van and can replace most standard taps in a single visit.
